It is important to be familiar with the original work of Joseph Pilates,
for your sake as a Pilates practitioner, and for my sake
to be able to point to the ideal that exists within that work.
These two books are must reading:

Perceptible "makes sense."
Perceptible “makes sense.”
You can feel it.
In your body it “makes sense.”
You can understand it.
In your mind it “makes sense.”
You can own it in your own right
The ultimate validation is what “makes sense” to you.
Without needing anyone else’s approval.
How’s that for inconvenient?
To everyone but you.

Interview with Michael Miller
Where do you find yourself at this point in your career?
Older.
Calmer.
What’s new because of the App?
Thousands of new students in hundreds of countries.
Joe’s original work and my point of view in the palm of your hand, for free.
And the dictionaries to back them up for a fee.
How does that feel?
It makes me feel very humble that I’ve been so lucky to share so much of my view to so many.
It makes me feel grateful for all the help I’ve had to get here. Especially, Kevin Hart, who is no longer with us.
And it makes me feel calmer that the view of Pilates having an ideal within the original work will endure.
Once it’s generally known that you can look at Pilates in an ideal way, if there is one, it will surely continue to reveal itself.
What makes your view of Pilates unique?
Other than the profession that there’s an ideal afoot?
My view is based upon my lifetime spent documenting the original work of Joseph Pilates.
My view is the only view that explains “Why?”
My view is the only view that starts with spirit and enters into physics, way before biology comes into play.
My view is from an individual, not a collective.
It is what it is, and in that sense, it is a good point of reference.
Doesn’t that establish your brand as a de facto standard in the industry?
It seems apparent, though for the time being, overlooked or ignored. Or, I haven’t done enough to clarify Michael Miller Pilates.
What’s your take on formal training programs?
I’m sure they all do a good job as far as they go. It’s just that they don’t go far enough. After all, how formal can their training programs be if they don’t cover the ideal within the original work?
If you went to Harvard to study physics wouldn’t you expect to cover Einstein?
How can you set yourself up as better than everyone else’s view of Pilates?
It’s not better; it’s different. MMP takes an ideal look at the original work of Joseph Pilates.
Some people might say you were deluded. What would you say to them?
Perhaps I am. I wouldn’t know. ;)
If I’m not then perhaps some people are.
How do you see Michael Miller Pilates fitting in with the rest of the Pilates community?
I don’t. I used to, hoped for the day, assumed the day would come, but not anymore. I see it is a situation of the individual and the collective. The collective will never condone the individual.
Just like Joseph Pilates was his own man, not a collective, Michael Miller was his own man, not a collective. MMP is a unique point of view, to that point it is a de facto standard.
Is that an inconvenient truth?
Definitely for some, but that’s just too bad. That’s just the way it is. You better adjust, you better incorporate, because for all that you do to try to establish legitimacy in the market, if you don’t acknowledge the ideal within the original work you are out of touch with reality and therefore vulnerable to competition and embarrassment.
Why is the saying mark for Michael Miller Pilates “makes sense”?
Because you can feel it.
It makes sense between your fingers.
It makes sense between your ears.
Why does Pilates matter so much to you?
If what I care about so much in Pilates is anything close to having an ideal nature, then I will have protected what I hold dear by pointing it out. For if there is anything to be seen as an ideal, then the ideal will protect itself, and I help ensure the survival of what I know and love to be Pilates.
It will never be the view of the collective, but it will always be what it is, and that’s what makes it so valuable. Whatever other view you take of Pilates, it will always be more of a subjective one than the ideal one. The fact that the ideal exists de facto establishes it as a standard. Other established standards don’t matter or influence the de facto standard of the ideal which exits in situ. Joe’s body of work is “in situ.” In place. Just like everyone (well, almost everyone) acknowledges the life and work of Joseph Pilates, so too, everyone (most) will (someday) acknowledge the ideal within the original work of Joseph Pilates.
Why is viewing an ideal within the original work so important to you?
The idea will protect itself
In doing so it will protect the original work of Joseph Pilates so that we all have the same foundation. (a notion of there being a complete coordination of body mind and spirit as a state of being in the body in the moment of the doing)
What’s different in the Pilates world today from the way you remember it used to be?
It used to sensational exploration of control and now it’s Tupperware.
Instead of the collectives you have now, there were individuals in search of something within themselves. In search of something they connected to within themselves and another individual’s passion, Joseph Pilates.
Who do you write for?
Initially, I take your question to mean what audience. But then I look the other way and think of agency. And in that way of looking at it, that I write as an agent for Cornu, the audience is all the same. Whether they’re just a beginner, or they are a key player in the collective, they are intrigued by and want to know more about seeing the ideal that exists within the original work. If they’re not, they unsubscribe. That frees me up to write to those whom I know want to read what I have to say.
And what do you have to say?
Pilates can be performed and taught at a very high level.
How do you see the trend in the economy affecting Pilates?
More of what is already happening—the retreat into the aristocratic womb of support.
Groupon Living Social etc…like a distress flare.
Pilates is everywhere to the point of free
It will thin to free mat classes and equipment subsidized by insurance, 501(c)s, 401(k)s, and personal wherewithal.
Why do you have such a reputation?
"You eat life or life eats you." Mutiny on the Bounty.
Maybe it’s because I am the laziest guy you’ll ever meet.
I can only assume divine irony at work with such an exquisite message
born by such a deplorable messenger.
Maybe it’s because I am such a wild and crazy guy.
Maybe it’s because it’s easier to ignore the message by killing the messenger.

The MICHAEL MILLER trademark is a symbol of ideal posture and perfect body dynamics rooted in the physics of spiral movement found in galaxies, whirlpools, shells, wind and light. By choosing the attitude of natural and counter-balancing forces in our own body we can we reduce the stress of gravity and move pain free with ease and grace.
