2 ways of using the inhale
To lift
To prepare to lift
Using the inhale to lift the load
In the Swan
on Ladder Barrel
Inhaling takes you out to lift the load up
(your body into extension)
The more uniform the engagement the lighter the load. Lifting as the inflation is peaking produces the most control the furthest away from center.
Using the inhale to prepare to lift the load
In the Tree
over the Short Box on the Reformer, or over Ladder Barrel
from full extension to sitting up hands reaching past ankles.
Inhaling completely before you begin to lift the load of the head.
Finish the inhale while hanging at ease to maximize the range of exhale to bring you up.
And for those of you who would hide behind guile or ruse, you best know what it is you are trying not to admit what you must consider to make it look effortless. (The more effortless it actually is the better.) A quiet humble presentation of embodiment is enough.
Inhale is the only load in preparation for the load to come.
Then the head curls up in the gap, ears to shoulders.
Then the exhale leads the way, shoulders to hips.
Summary
In the Swan you use the inhale to lift the load
In the Tree you use the inhale to prepare to lift the load
Make sure the breath really does lead the way.
Because control is the target, control how you use the inhale:
To lift, or
To prepare to lift

we really do think alike. I just spent a whole class concentrating on using the inhale FIRST. Whether it was to lighten or prepare. COOL. Happy Holidays.
