Michael Miller Pilates

"makes sense"

The Un-edited version of what appeared in PilatesStyle Magazine without the editor added diminutive title of Teacher's Pet or "fellow teacher":

"I was delighted to  see that the last issue of Pilates Style featured an article on The Pilates Center of Boulder, where I take class twice a week. Every good thing you said about it is absolutely true. I was even more delighted when I read the Success Story article about Steve Hobson, and he credited his study with Michael Miller "a teacher who finally and fully conveyed to me the physicality of Pilates--something that up until then had been missing for me."

Michael Miller has been my teacher for over 9 years. His passion for teaching is the reason why I am passionate about Pilates, because he gives the Method a "why." He travels the world teaching Pilates teachers that Pilates is an Idea; the reason that it works. He teaches through sensation, so the student feels in his or her own body the Idea of Pilates.

An article about Michael would be great in Pilates Style. He is unusual, intelligent, well spoken, and an inspiration to teachers around the world. Michael started out playing team sports in football, basketball and track. He came to Pilates through many of the same paths that Joseph Pilates traveled. The Pilates Michael teaches is classical, based directly on the work of Joseph Pilates. With his own understanding of why Joe's method works, Michael brings a depth to what he teaches that is unsurpassed. He also teaches through the internet  with a website for which he is the sole developer and designer. It includes photos of the exercises which are invaluable aids for the teacher and the student. He offers training videos and dvds that he personally produces. Everything you see there is 100% Michael Miller.

Please check out Michael's website at www.hermit.com and see for yourselves. Some of the site is restricted to sbscribers, but for $20/year it's well worth the price. You can't go wrong learning more about this great Pilates teacher and scholar. "

Good feedback

Michael,
I have a friend who had sciatica problems and upper neck problems.  He borrowed a friend's video that was done by you, and he said all of his pain went away after 2 weeks of what he said were fairly simple exercises.  However, he no longer has the video so he can't remember what it is called.  I have chronic sciatica. I exercise a lot, but can't ever seem to get rid of the burning sensation and the numbness in my right leg.  I also have a fairly stiff muscle area between my shoulders and lower neck.
Can you direct me to which video you recommend?
My wife has lower back problems as well (although not sciatica).  can you recommend an exercise video for her too?
thanks
[I recommended this one or this one.]

"You are what you say and your work proves it."

Dear Michael
I ordered your  advanced  reformer DVD. ( with Cameron) I have to tell you it was worth every cent and then some. Your input was breath takingly insightful. I watched it at my studio and then hopped onto one of my reformers and let it play while I worked out and listened to your cues. I have never enjoyed a workout more!!!! The front rowing series was amazing and it opened my eyes and my body to the exercise in a way I had never experienced. Let it Flow !!! I want more!!!
You are what you say and your work proves it.

Cornu as inspiration for logo...Spanish / English

Lorenzipilates_4

I will try to explain the meaning: The ' S' of pilates with both points forms two figures in movement and in opposition head it arrives down -). The ' S' symbolizes the exaggerated curvature of the spine (patologia cifosis and lordosis). In order to avoid the deformation and to obtain the alignment, two points are needed tension and in opposition that must even rotate (as it represents your logo). The colors black and white symbolize the balance (between body, mind and spirit) and red energia that is born of powerhouse.

"the closest thing to an online school for Pilates Teacher Training"

"Pilates is an idea..."
Has some useful information about Michael Miller and his approach to Pilates. I list Michael Miller Pilates at the top because he is the closest thing to an online school for Pilates Teacher Training. Pictures, questions and text constitute informal tutorials that will educate and challenge you to create your own best interpretation of "the Method". Plenty of samples to view. Take for example this very telling comment:-

"Pilates principles are the fad issue these days, as though you could explain Pilates through a vague and randomly ordered focus on principles."

It is very empowering...

"I believe in your stance that Pilates is now an Idea.  Once, it was one particular man's passion for movement and control.  Now, Pilates is everyone's interpretation of that man's work.  It drives me crazy that people will create exercises and call it Pilates when it has nothing to do with Contrology or Joe, except for the fact that they are exploiting the equipment he designed.

What I like about your approach is that you've dug up as much history as possible to understand how Joe thought and worked.  Then you added some scientific terminology to explain the work.  It is very empowering to look at Pilates through "The Idea."  It really does make sense.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me.  I look forward to doing more work with you.

Fluorescently Yours~ "
